So I Went on Vacation…

So I Went on Vacation…

July 11, 2023 Books, Self Publishing, Writing No Comments

And the future of this blog.

Early this month I started this blog on self publishing, and since then I’ve consistently posted content Monday through Friday. That changed last week due to me going on vacation.

However, there are some big changes coming to my blog in the near future.

Firstly, I don’t think I can keep up a content schedule as I’ve tried to this month. I’m still working out the details in my head, but I think blog content will be a once a week thing. The reason for this is that most of the time I have for writing has been given to the blog, and I need to dedicate more time to my stories.

I consider my blog posts to be relatively short, but that’s something I’d like to change going forward. So although my posts will be fewer, I’d like the word count to be about the same. You may wonder how that would help free up time for writing stories, but I think it’ll work out with how my brain works when writing.

Secondly, for the time being I’ll still be posting on this site, but I’ve been building a website in the background and whenever that site is ready, it will host my blog. There’s a lot I’ve had to learn about website development, and I’m nowhere near done, but I wanted to let you know that this change will be coming… soon?

Whenever I’m able to finish my new home site, I’m sure I’ll milk blog posts about creating my own website as an indie author. This is just another step in the long journey that I’ve set out upon.

You may wonder why I would start this blog just to move sites. Well it’s certainly not a good marketing strategy to be moving around websites as you’re building an audience. Unfortunately I didn’t know that I could build my own site earlier this month. And it was only after I started my blog that I dug deep into blog advice, and that’s when I found out I could do this.

Fortunately I haven’t been blogging here for too long, so a move this early on won’t be devastating.

As far as the content on this blog is concerned, I’d like to update all of my posts, to make them more meaty, and release them as base content on my new site. But that’s not the only content I have planned for my new site.

I’ve got a lot of ideas for what will be in my new website, and most of them won’t be available at launch. But I plan on having short stories, possibly snippets from my current works in progress, maybe sample chapters from books. Those are only a few ideas that I’m fairly certain will be on the site, but there’s other ideas (some too farfetched) that I’ve been thinking about as well.

That’s what’s been going on with me.

Incidentally, I didn’t plan on having a void of content last week, but I found I had little time to do any work on vacation. Super bummer, I know.

So don’t expect Monday through Friday posting. For now, I’ll be posting on Tuesdays and Thursdays.

Until then, I hope you have a wonderful day,

Colin J Switalski
