What I never saw coming with self publishing.
This is my first attempt at self publishing a work of mine, and it has been quite the journey. I know there are many ways of independently publishing a book, but here is how I did it… so far.
Because it’s not over.
Yes, I wrote a story. I had said story alpha read. I had it professionally edited. Then I went through the slog of buying ISBNs, uploading the story to Amazon KDP, figuring out how to add and delete book categories on Amazon, and finding out what keywords might work best for it on Amazon (yes, it’s only available to pre-order on Kindle… for now). But even after all of that, my work is not over.
I’m not complaining.
This story is my creation, and I want to put in as much work as I can to make it successful. This blog is part of that work. I made for myself a Facebook page, an Instagram account, a Twitter account, a YouTube account, and a GoodReads account–all to prop up my little short story in the hopes that it might succeed.
As I’m writing this, I’m eagerly awaiting the results of a paid promotion for my book that will begin 6/2/23. It was pretty cheat compared to all my other expenses going into publication, and it’s through a company that has a bunch of email lists. But I figured I should try everything. And if this promotion works, I’ll reveal company so you can check it out, too.
I’ll probably write separate posts about each individual step in the process of indie publishing. Because there is a lot more to it than I expected.
If you’re interested in pre-ordering my book, you can find it here. It’s only $0.99 before release, which is quite a steal if I do say so myself… and I do.
I hope you have a wonderful day,
Colin J Switalski
