Using Pubby to increase book credibility
Are you a self-published author? Are you wondering how to get more book reviews on Amazon? I’ve found the answer to getting all the reviews you could possibly need for about four Starbucks drinks a month. I’m talking about Pubby, a platform that’s all about authors getting their books reviewed on Amazon.
What is Pubby?
Pubby is a subscription based platform that connects readers to your book with the purpose of getting your book reviewed on Amazon. These are real people reading your published book, and these readers will review it.
How does it work?
If you’re an author, once you create your account, you can upload whichever published books you want reviews for. Once a book is uploaded and approved, you can spend Snaps to request readers to review your book.
Snaps are earned primarily from reading and reviewing other authors’ books. So no, you can’t be a digital hermit with Pubby–you’ll have to actually engage with the unwashed masses–in this case, other authors’ books.
When you request a review, you can choose whether you want the reviewer to be given a free ebook copy of your book, have them read it with Kindle Unlimited, or be a verified purchase. Each of these options have merit, though they have differing Snap costs, with a verified purchase being the highest.
Pubby will notify you once its found a reader for your book, and you’ll be informed once the reader has turned in their review. I find some reviews take a few days for Amazon to approve, while others are almost instant.
It may sound too good to be true, and there are pros and cons, but I used Pubby to get reviews for both Intersection and Mesa, and I can assure you that their system works. If you have your books available on Amazon, Pubby can work for you too.
Because of Pubby, books have received over 100,000 Amazon reviews. You aren’t charged per review, and you can request unlimited reviews for your books.
Pubby isn’t just for authors either, anyone can sign up as a reader and read your book for free in exchange for an Amazon review.
I’ve found that I typically find readers within a day of requesting them, so the turn around is quick.
With Pubby, your book will get more exposure than it normally would, and you’ll certainly get more reviews.
This platform is for all kinds of books too. Fiction, non-fiction, children’s lit, coloring books, photo books, you name it. If it’s a published book, it can can be reviewed through Pubby.
In no way is it all sunshine and rainbows over at Pubby.
First off, it’s a subscription service. I know I have a lot of subscriptions at this point, and who wants another. But for Pubby, I consider it a part of my marketing expenses: Amazon reviews are critical for increasing the credibility of your book, which in turn will get you more sales.
Of course you don’t get reviews for your book unless you actually review someone else’s book. That means you need to set aside some reading time for a book that you might not be all that interested in. And with the state of self publishing, the book you chose might not be professionally edited. However, there’s a flip side to this issue: you just might find a hidden gem.
And it goes without saying that not every book is for everyone. Even the authors you think are the best get one star reviews. I’ve taken steps in the setup of my books to try and funnel out readers who won’t like my material, so with Pubby you actually have a little more control over what kinds of readers are giving you reviews.
If you like what you’ve heard about Pubby, consider using my this link to sign up. I get a few Snaps and you get %15 off your subscription.
You might be thinking “This all sounds interesting, but I don’t have a whole lot of time to read.” And I don’t either. Whenever I need more snaps, I look at the “quick reads” section, and there’s usually a good selection of short books to choose from. These books include children’s stories, photo books, and coloring books, all of which require little to no time to look through and review.
If you’re anything like me, you don’t have a mass of readers eagerly awaiting your next release so they can review it on Amazon. Pubby is the key to getting review credibility at whatever pace you want to set. Yes, you’ve got to pay a subscription, and yes, you’ll need to read some books, maybe a few duds. But it’s definitely been worth it for me.
So check out Pubby with this link, and I’ll see you in the next post. I hope you have a wonderful day.
