Blogging about blogging about blogging.

This is the first original blog post for self publishing on my new home website! I’m really excited to have this site up and running, and I’m excited to share with you some of the things I have planned for it in the near future. But this post is about blogging and only blogging, so I’ll talk about my site in another post.

Let’s talk about the blogging.

I picked up blogging early June, 2023, and I was surprised by how much I liked it. The reason I started blogging was to build a following for my writing. So ultimately my blog is one of many things I’m juggling as a self publishing author. My hope is that my blog posts will funnel readers into having interest in my forthcoming books. Will my intended effect actually bear fruit? I have yet to see. But I really enjoyed posting on my old blog page, and I imagine I’ll enjoy it even more now that I’m posting on my own website.

My old blog was doing pretty well as far as traffic goes. It certainly performed better than I thought it would, so I’m curious how it will do on my new site.

I’ve transferred over all of the content from my old blog, though a few of the posts I’ve made minor tweaks to, which were made to boost my SEO score. Yeah I’ve been getting into SEO (search engine optimization), and I’ll post about that at some point.

You really need to be able to wear a thousand hats to be an indie author (or maybe I’m doing it all wrong). The hardest part is finding outfits that match with the hats. But it’s an overwhelming number of topics to learn, and I’ve been taking them on one at a time.

Starting a blog was definitely a good decision for me. If I didn’t start my blog, I wouldn’t have started searching the YouTube rabbit hole on how to make my blog better; and if I hadn’t gone to YouTube for blog tips, I wouldn’t have found out how to create my website. I had planned on having a website at some point, but having my blog hosted on my own website was definitely a big plus.

So that’s why I cut my losses over on my old blog and created my own website to host my blog on. I’d recommend creating a website to any self publishing author out there. The amount of freedom that comes from learning website creation is immense.

Don’t get me wrong: designing a website was not easy, and it was quite frustrating at many points, but I really like what I’ve put together. And I’m better off for all the trouble I went through.

Currently I’m planning on releasing a new blog post every Tuesday and Thursday. These posts will continue documenting my self publishing journey, and I hope you join me in this path.

Next week I’d like to talk about building my website and what you can expect to see in the future here.

Until then, I hope you have a wonderful day,

Colin J Switalski
